Great (ad)ventures start with one step

Philippians 1:6 “ …. He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

We’re starting something good.

Today Rod and I launched All Good Ventures by telling our friends, family and close networks about this vision that God put into our hearts nearly a decade ago.

Reading through this website and watching our video on the home page, you can find out a bit more about what we’re up to.

So, how did all this get started?

As happens with most of us as we get older, several years ago Rod and I started having those conversations that many couples do . . .  “Why are we here?” “What are we striving for and working so hard for?”  And as Christians, the most important question for us is, “Are we doing what God wants us to do with our time, talents and finances?”

As a couple without children – yes, we are DINKS (double income, no kids) – we’ve had the added dilemma of thinking long-term about how we invest the profits from our businesses. As with other families, we have no children to put through university or help buy a new home and no kids looking for an inheritance when we cark it.

So, Rod and I came up with a plan.  When we met with our lawyers for the first time to map out how to start this ‘thing,’ I said, “The plan is . . . we want to die penniless!”  Basically, we have set up a process to funnel our two business profits into a charity that will give everything away over the next few decades we live on this earth.

But Rod and I feel very much like this is the start of something bigger than just him and I – or at least that is our hope!  With God’s help, we want to leave a legacy and leave behind an organisation that will do great things for many years to come.

The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Philippians, in the Bible, was encouraging the people saying, “… He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

While the “day of Christ Jesus” could be tomorrow, on the flip side it could be many centuries from now.  For Rod and I, with All Good Ventures, our hope is that we get to affect lives of people in need for a few years at the start of this organisation - - - but that God will find a way to keep it going until it has completed the vision He has for the good works He wants to do through us.

Therefore, Rod and I hold this vision loosely.  Who knows where it’s going to lead?  We have always thrown ourselves into unknown territory by simply taking a step forward, and then another, and then another.  The path and purpose will become clearer as we take action.

Check back to our blog as we’ll share more about our story about ‘how the heck we got here.’  And as we announce our first ventures in February, we’ll begin sharing the stories of the entrepreneurs in our care.

Let us know what you think – we’d love to hear your feedback:info@allgood.ventures .
